The New Penny

Making the penny harder to counterfeit.

seriously? I mean do people counterfeit pennies? Seems like the manufacture would cost more than the value.

No, not seriously. The government has the right to coin money, and on the flip side, the obligation to maintain its value and not embark on a course of hyper-inflation, and what are they doing? Making vanity quarters, a silver dollar to honor James K Polk, and now - a new penny. How about getting rid of the penny, and the nickel, leaving the rest of the coins alone, and try for heaven sake to maintain the zinc and copper standard.
