The Highways and the Hedges

became angry and ordered his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.'
22 'Sir,' the servant said, 'what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.'

"When it was time for dinner, he sent out his servant to the invited guests, saying, 'Come on in; the food's on the table.'
Then they all began to beg off, one after another making excuses. The first said, 'I bought a piece of property and need to look it over. Send my regrets.'
Another said, 'I just bought five teams of oxen, and I really need to check them out. Send my regrets.'
And yet another said, 'I just got married a nd need to get home to my wife.'

I *love* this. Jesus seems to be saying that the reason people don't get in has very little to with being invited or welcomed, and lots to do with whether they want to come or not, and ... it touches on graciousness and busyness.

Oh yes, I missed that! I'd love to come, really, but I need to fold my laundry. Scarier actually.
As far as "highways and hedges", or "go beat the bushes", what kind of people do you find sleeping in the bushes?

Yes. Yes. I worry now that it might mean - I can't come right now, I have an idea to post on my blog, and then I have to go get gas for the car because I need to drive to Rochester for a demonstration tomorrow.

Martin,

... But ... when you came to Seattle, you took the time to let me know and set up a get together. This seems to indicate that you are a people person, and thus not likely to skip getting to go to the party due to other busyish matters.
